Blugolds dominate Eagles, 85-48

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team earned their second win in as many days on Wednesday night, overpowering Edgewood College 85-48 in Zorn Arena.

The Blugolds dominated from the opening tip, shooting 52.6 percent (10-19) from the floor and 42.9 percent (3-7) from behind the arc to take a 26-7 lead after the first quarter. Maddie Dunathan (So. – Hortonville, WI) led the charge, scoring nine points.

Eau Claire shot even better in the second quarter, shooting 58.3 percent (7-12) from the field and 50 percent (2-4) from three to take a 44-19 advantage into the locker room. The Blugolds showed their depth in the opening half as 16 Blugolds saw action. The Blugold defense held the Eagles to 33.3 percent (8-24) from the floor and 33.3 percent (3-9) from three in the half.

The second half proved to be much like the first as the Blugolds continued their dominate play to cruise to an 85-48 win. Anna Graaskamp (Fr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) and Bree Meier (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/South) led the balanced Blugold attack with 10 points apiece. Fifteen Blugolds tallied points as Eau Claire shot am impressive 53.4 percent (31-58) from the field and 42.3 percent (11-26) from three in the win. Eau Claire also got it done from the charity stripe, hitting 12 of 14 free throws (85.7 percent).

Eau Claire (3-2) will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Waverly, Iowa to take on Wartburg College at 2 p.m.
