EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. (Blugolds.com)-The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team hosted the No. 13 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans Wednesday night, falling, 44-57.
After a road win against UW-Platteville, UW-Eau Claire hit the court eager to improve their standing in the WIAC while Oshkosh was looking to bounce back from an upset loss over the weekend.
Oshkosh jumped on the Blugolds early with an 11-0 run to start the game. The Blugolds settled in and battled back to end the first quarter trailing 18-11. The Titans hot shooting continued into the second quarter and for the remainder of the game, shooting 52 percent from the floor. The Blugolds trailed by 11 at the half and cut the lead to nine late in the fourth quarter but were not able to make a comeback.
The game's leading scorer was Oshkosh's Taylor Schmidt with 14 points. The Blugolds' leading scorer was Erin O'Toole (So.-Plymouth, MN/Hopkins) with 13 points (7-7 from the free throw line). Madison Johnson (Sr.-Osceola, WI/Osceola) also contributed 12 points. The Blugolds shot a solid 91.7 percent from the free throw line on the evening.
The Blugolds, now (10-12, 5-6 WIAC) will be at home for the last time in the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 13 in Zorn Arena. They will be taking on the No. 17 UW-Stevens Point Pointers at 7:00 p.m.
