Blugolds Fall Short to #11 Warhawks

EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. (Blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire women's basketball team took on the #11 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks (USA Today Coaches) on Saturday night, falling to the Warhawks, 52-54.

UW Eau Claire faced one of the best teams in the WIAC, and it showed from tip-off. The Blugolds fell behind out of the gates, as they ended the first period 7-17.

Despite their initial deficit, the Blugolds gained momentum and started their comeback. A series of jump shots and lay-ups propelled Eau Claire ahead, as they went into half time with a one-point lead. The Warhawks contested in the third period, but the Blugolds held onto their slight lead.

By the middle of the fourth period, Eau Claire gained a six-point advantage and appeared to have control over UW-Whitewater. However, a three-point jumper followed by a few late free throws ultimately won the game for the Warhawks.

The game's leading scorer was Eau Claire's Erin O'Toole (So.-Plymouth, MN/Hopkins) with 28 points and 13 rebounds on the night.

The Blugolds will be back in action this week as they hit the road to face the UW-Oshkosh Titans on Wednesday, Jan. 27th at 7:00 pm.
