Blugolds Fall to Kohawks

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team hit the road as they faced the Coe College Kohawks Saturday night, falling to the Kohawks, 67-86.

UW-Eau Claire came into the game after defeating a high-scoring, fast-paced North Central team. The Kohawks another high-powered offense was averaging 75 points per game, and shooting 43 percent from the floor entering Saturdays contest.

Coe opened the game with a 14-6 run and ended the first quarter leading 22-14. The Blugolds answered with 10-3 run to start the second quarter and cut the Kowhaks lead to one with six straight points by Erin O'Toole.  Coe went on to hit five three-pointers in a row to end the half leading 42-30. The Kohawks opened up the third quarter with an 8-0 run, the Blugolds answered late in the fourth quarter with a 17-8 run but fell short of the comeback.

Thirty-two points in the paint by the Blugolds answered Coe's hot shooting. Sophomore Erin O'Toole led the Blugolds in scoring with 26 points. The center was eight of 17 from the floor and hit 10 of 14 free throws while also chipping in seven rebounds. Seniors Teenie Lichtfuss and Madison Johnson both scored 12 points for the Blugolds.

The Blugolds, now (3-6), will be making the trip out to Green Castle, Indiana as they face DePauw University on Dec. 28 and Franklin College on Dec. 29 in the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Classic.
