EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team closed the Blugold Tip-Off Classic with a game against the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets Saturday at Zorn Arena, falling to the Yellowjackets, 61-58.
After a thrilling overtime win Friday night, the Blugolds faced another solid competitor—with neither team every leading by more than nine points. After an incredibly close first two periods, UW-Eau Claire's shooting dominated the third period, 21-14. The tables turned heading into the fourth period as the Yellowjackets put in a pair of layups with less than three minutes remaining.
The game's leading scorer was UW-Superior's Hadley Skalmoski with 16 points. Two Blugolds put up double-digits, as Erin O-Toole (So.-Plymouth,MN/Hopkins) and Teenie Lichtfuss (Sr.-Oshkosh,WI/Lourdes) both scored 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Eau Claire's strong defense, with 12 steals and six blocks, could not restrain the Yellowjackets in the game's final minutes.
The Blugolds (1-2, 0-0 WIAC) will travel to De Pere, WI on Tuesday as they face the St. Norbert College Green Knights. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
