Blugolds Secure #2 Seed in WIAC Tournament

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball secured a first round bye and No. 2 seed in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournament with a 64-61 win over UW-Oshkosh Saturday night in Zorn Arena.

Courtney Lewis (Sr. Prairie du Chien, Wis.) followed up a season high 27 points against River Falls with a 25-point effort, moving her into a tie at 20th in the Blugold record book with 948 points.  She tallied 11 rebounds for another double-double on the season.

The Titans took an early lead to start the game, but down 7-13 in the opening minutes of the first half, Eau Claire mounted a 16-0 run to take the lead and by halftime, the Blugold lead stood at 31-25.

Eau Claire increased their lead to double digits around the midpoint of the second half, but the Titans chipped away at the Blugold lead and following a Taylor Schmidt three with three seconds left, saw the Blugolds up one 62-61. However, Lewis knocked down two three throws to seal the victory, 64-61.

Eau Claire shot 44.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from three while holding Oshkosh to shooting 42 percent from the field and 28.3 percent from deep. The Blugolds also out-rebounded the Titans, 33-24.

Kristin Sahr (Sr. Stillwater, Minn.) and Rachel Egdorf (Sr. Mishicot, Wis.), made the most of their senior night, scoring 13 points and nine points respectively.

Egdorf also added seven rebounds.

Teenie Lichtfuss (Jr. Oshkosh, Wis.) chipped in six point while dishing out a game-high 10 assists.

The Blugolds finish the regular season 16-9 (11-5 WIAC) and will host the highest remaining seed following Wednesday's first round on Friday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
