Women's Basketball Narrowly Falls to Falcons

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Despite the game being close the entire way, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team came up just short in the end, falling 47-44 to UW-River Falls on Ken Anderson Court in Zorn Arena tonight.

While the score was tied four times in the opening half, the Blugolds never trailed during the first 20 minutes. Eau Claire led by as many as seven points, nine minutes into the game, and held a 26-24 lead at halftime.

The Falcons hit the first basket of the second half, a three-pointer, taking their first lead of the night. It was a close game the rest of the way with neither team leading by more than four points.

The game was tied three more times in the second half and Eau Claire held a one-point lead with just over a minute to play. But the Falcons were able to outscore the Blugolds 6-2 in the final minute to win by three. The Blugolds finished with just 18 points in the second half while River Falls had only 23.

Teenie Lichtfuss (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) led the game in scoring with 14 points, 11 coming in the opening half. Rachel Egdorf (Jr.-Mishicot, Wis.) tied for a game-high with eight rebounds.

Eau Claire drops to 6-16 overall and 4-9 in the WIAC while the Falcons improve to 5-16 on the season and 4-9 in conference play.

The Blugolds will be on the road Wednesday at 15th-ranked UW-Oshkosh for a game beginning at 7 p.m.
