Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight, Beating Superior 73-56

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Coming off a 57-47 win over UW-La Crosse on Saturday, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team recorded a victory again tonight, defeating UW-Superior 73-56 on Ken Anderson Court in Zorn Arena.

The game started out slow with the teams combining for just four points over the first four minutes. Then, over a two-minute stretch, the Blugolds outscored the Superior 8-2 to take a six-point lead, their largest of the first half.

Superior worked its way back into the game and tied it up at 18 with four minutes to play in the opening half. The teams went back and forth the rest of the half and finished with a 24-24 tie at halftime.

Eau Claire came out strong in the second half and outscored the Yellowjackets 14-4 over the first five minutes to build a 10-point lead (38-28). The closest Superior got after that was five points, but the Blugolds then began to pull away, outscoring the Yellowjackets 25-15 over the final nine minutes to win by 17.

Teenie Lichtfuss (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) led the Blugolds in scoring with 21 points while Courtney Lewis (Jr.-Prairie du Chien, Wis.) tied for a game-high with eight rebounds.

The Blugolds finished the game shooting 45.3 percent (24-for-53) to 30.8 percent (20-for-65) for Superior while also outrebounding the Yellowjackets 43-35.

Eau Claire improves to 6-15 overall and 4-8 in the WIAC while Superior drops to 12-8 on the season and 5-6 in conference play. The win ended a three-game losing streak against the Yellowjackets.

The Blugolds will be home again Saturday, facing UW-River Falls at 7 p.m. for Alumni Day.
