Women's Basketball Falls at Simpson College

INDIANOLA, Iowa (Blugolds.com) – Despite leading by 13 points at halftime, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team was unable to hang on, falling to Simpson College (Iowa) 83-75 at Cowles Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

In the opening half, the Blugolds scored 18 points off nine Simpson turnovers and made nine more baskets from the field (19-10), including a 5-0 margin from beyond the arc.

But the second half was a different story as the Storm capitalized on Blugold errors, scoring 17 points off 16 Blugold turnovers compared to just two points off of six turnovers Simpson had in the first.

Three Blugolds reached double figures in scoring with Teenie Lichtfuss (So.-Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes) leading the game with 21 points while also finishing with a game-high five assists.

Madison Johnson (So.-Osceola, Wis.) finished the game with 13 points and led the Blugolds in rebounding with five. Carly Chell (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn.) chipped in 11 points, all coming in the first half.

For the game from the field, the Blugolds shot 54.7 percent (29-for-53), a season-best. Simpson edged the Blugolds in rebounding 34-29.

The Blugolds are now 1-3 on the season while Simpson improves to 2-0.

Eau Claire will now travel to St. Norbert College for a game against the Green Knights on Tuesday. Action will get underway at 5 p.m.
