Women's Basketball Falls to UW-Whitewater At Home

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team played host to UW-Whitewater today on Ken Anderson Court in Zorn Arena but the Blugolds came up short 57-43.

The Blugolds were led by Courtney Lewis (So.-Prairie Du Chien, Wis.), who scored nine points with two rebounds and two assists.

Shannon Riley (Fr.-Muskego, Wis.) had eight of the Blugolds' 30 rebounds, while Lewis and Kristin Sahr (So.-Stillwater, Minn./Stilwater Area) each had two of the Blugolds' four assists.

Eau Claire didn't trail for the opening few minutes but the Warhawks took control of the game with a 15-0 run less than five minutes into the contest and never looked back. The closest the Blugolds got the rest of the night was four points midway through the second half, but Whitewater outscored the Blugolds after that 22-12 to win by 14.

The Blugolds major struggles came in three point shooting.  They only managed to shoot 10 percent from the three-point line (1-for-10).  They also only shot 8-for-14 from the free throw line, just 57.1 percent.

The loss was the third straight for the Blugolds, bringing them to a 9-11 record overall and 4-7 in conference.  Whitewater moved to 15-5 overall and 9-2 in the WIAC.

The Blugolds will look to bounce back when they travel to Oshkosh to play UW-Oshkosh Wednesday.   The game will tip-off at 7 p.m.
