Sivak tosses shutout as Blugolds sweep Eagles

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team hosted UW-La Crosse on Frida, sweeping the Eagles by scores of 1-0 and 2-1.

In game one, Morgan Sivak (Sr. – Oconomowoc, WI) tossed the complete game shutout, giving up just two hits while striking out four. The senior right-hander improves to 6-3 on the season.

The game's lone run came in the bottom of the second. Ellie Decker (Jr. – Germantown, WI) reached on an error and would later score on a Mikayla McEnery (Sr. – Savage, MN/Prior Lake) single to center field.

Abbey Place (Sr. – Naperville, IL/Central) collected two of the three Blugold hits in the game, finishing 2-for-3.

In game two, the Eagles took an early lead scoring a run in the third, but the lead wouldn't last long as the Blugolds would score two in the fifth.

Meghan Witt (Jr. – Portage, WI) started the inning with a single to center and Jayden Hodgson (Fr. – Elk Mound, WI/Chi-Hi) entered the game as a pinch runner. Hodgson would get moved over to second and would advance to third on a Katelyn Yute (Sr. – North Prairie, WI/Kettle Moraine) single. Megan Maruna's (So. – Oswego, IL) single to right would plate Hodgson to even the score at 1. Yute would later score on an error to give the Blugolds the 2-1 lead.

Place would again finish 2-for-3 to lead the offense while Madi Zerr (So. – Bristol, WI/Wilmot Union) earned the win in the circle, striking out six and scattering six hits in six innings of work and is now 7-5 on the season.

Eau Claire (16-8, 5-1 WIAC) will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Oshkosh to take on the Titans (10-4, 2-0).  First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. Follow the action on Blugold Game Day.
