Five Blugolds named to All-WIAC Softball Team

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) - On Tuesday, five members from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team were selected to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) team. The following players received All-WIAC honors: Mikayla McEnery (Fr.-Savage, MN/Prior Lake), Sarah Peka (So.-Chanhassen, MN/Minnetonka), Gretchen Arneson (So.-Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi), Stephanie Wilczynski (So.-Naperville, IL/Waubonsie Valley), and Allison Schultz (Jr.-Amery, WI).

McEnery and Peka were both a part of the All-WIAC First Team. Finishing with a batting average of .308, nine runs batted in, eleven runs scored, and a .979 fielding percentage, McEnery made an immediate impact in her freshman campaign. The lefty outfielder appeared in 31 games in her first season with the Blugolds.

Peka took on the pitching bulk this year, tossing 113.1 innings. The sophomore finished with a record of 11-11, a 3.21 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts. In addition to her work inside the circle, Peka also contributed with the bat this season. She went 18-for-33 (.545 avg.), drove in eight runs, and scored a 1.195 on-base plus slugging percentage.

Arneson and Wilczynski received All-WIAC Honorable Mention honors. The sophomore catcher in Arneson blasted three home runs, 19 RBIs, a .945 OPS, and .333 average. Wilczynski ended with a record of 6-3, a 2.66 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 32 punchouts in 68.1 innings of work.

Named to the conference All-Sportsmanship Team was Allison Schultz. The junior outfielder appeared in 30 games for Eau Claire and contributed ten runs throughout the season.

These five players led the Blugolds to a 21-18 overall record this past season.
