EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team picked up two more wins on a beautiful afternoon on Sunday. They topped St. Scholastica by two in both games, winning 2-0 and 7-5.

In game one, the scoreboard showed equal numbers between the Blugolds and Saints in the hits and errors categories with two apiece. The lone difference came where it matters most, the run column. UW-Eau Claire rode the pitching efforts of their ace Lauren Blasczyk (Sr.-Appleton, WI/East) in her shutout victory. The senior struck out eight for a new season-high single game mark in the 'K' department.

The two hits for the Blugolds came off the bats of Evie Schaller (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, WI/Chi-Hi) and Emily Pomykalski (Sr.-Cross Plains, WI/Middleton). It was Pomykalski's single in the fourth inning that broke the scoreless tie. Eau Claire also walked four times in the inning, with one of those coming to the pinch-hitting Jessica Heffel (So.-Racine, WI/Case) with the bases loaded.

The second contest showcased more offense from the competing squads. Despite the Saints posting 13 hits to the Blugolds nine, the latter was able to hang on for the win. Hanging on is no exaggeration either, as the Saints pushed four runs across in the seventh before finally being retired. With the tying run eventually on base, Blasczyk was called upon out of the 'pen to get the final two outs for her second save on the year.

Sarah Peka (Fr.-Chanhassen, MN/Minnetonka) and Cheyenne Johnson (Fr.-Poplar, WI/Northwestern) went three innings and three-and-a-third respectively with Johnson earning the win.

Schaller mashed at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and a two-run shot in the fifth. Carlie Christensen (Jr.-Ellsworth, WI/River Falls) also went yard with a solo home run in the fourth. Four more Blugolds hitters contributed with a hit as well in the win.

Eau Claire concludes the regular season in the coming week with a trip to UW-Stout on Wednesday, followed up by hosting Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Thursday and UW-Platteville on Saturday.
