Two Blugold Softball Players Named to NFCA All-Region Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Blugolds.com) – Two UW-Eau Claire softball players were recently honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), being selected to the All-Region Team.

Amanda Fischer (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./West) was named to the Great Lakes Region First Team as an outfielder while Taylor Pierce (Jr.-Ashwaubenon, Wis.) was selected to the Second Team as a utility player. It was the third time in Fischer's career she was named to the All-Region Team while Pierce was selected for the second time.

Fischer tied a single season school record with 11 home runs this season while also stealing 31 bases, more than double of anyone else in the WIAC, which tied for fourth most in school history. She was second on the team with a .386 batting average, leading the Blugolds with 140 at-bats and tied for a team-high with 54 hits. Fischer also led the Blugolds and WIAC in runs scored with 49 and in RBI with 43. Fischer also led the Blugolds with 98 total bases, ranked second best in the WIAC. Fischer, who split time between the outfield and infield, finished with 39 putouts and 44 assists. She was selected to the All-WIAC first team for the third time in her career this season.

Pierce led the Blugolds in hitting with a .406 batting average with 54 hits in 133 at-bats. She was second on the team in runs scored with 32, which also was fifth-best in the WIAC, and with 15 stolen bases, which also was second-best in the league. Pierce, who played infield, finished with 31 putouts and 58 assists. Pierce was named to the All-WIAC first team this season, after previously receiving the honor in 2012.
