MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Five UW-Eau Claire softball players have been honored by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with the announcement of the All-WIAC team today.
Receiving first team All-WIAC recognition were Amanda Fischer (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./West), Taylor Pierce (Jr.-Ashwaubenon, Wis.) and Laura Raflik (Jr.-Plover, Wis./Pacelli).
Fischer, who was selected to the first team for the third straight year, tied a single season school record with 11 home runs this season while also stealing 31 bases, more than double of anyone else in the WIAC, which tied for fourth most in school history. She was second on the team with a .386 batting average, leading the Blugolds with 140 at-bats and tied for a team-high with 54 hits. Fischer also led the Blugolds and WIAC in runs scored with 49 and in RBI with 43. Fischer also led the Blugolds with 98 total bases, ranked second best in the WIAC. Fischer, who split time between the outfield and infield, finished with 39 putouts and 44 assists.
Pierce, who previously was named to the All-WIAC first team in 2012, led the Blugolds in hitting with a .406 batting average with 54 hits in 133 at-bats. She was second on the team in runs scored with 32, which also was fifth-best in the WIAC, and with 15 stolen bases, which also was second-best in the league. Pierce, who played infield, finished with 31 putouts and 58 assists.
Raflik led the Blugolds and was fourth in the WIAC with an ERA of 2.52. She finished the year with 91.2 innings pitched, allowing 96 hits and 46 runs, only 33 of which were earned, while striking out 60 batters. She appeared in 21 games and had a 10-4 record.
Honorably mentioned on the All-WIAC team was Casey Arnold (Jr.-Kaukauna, Wis.).
Arnold, who started 40 out of 41 games at catcher this season, was second on the team with 221 putouts while also accumulating 26 assists. She was fourth on the team with a batting average of .331, recording 41 hits in 124 at-bats. Arnold scored 16 runs and had 31 RBI, third most on the team.
Additionally, Emma Wishau (Sr.-Burlington, Wis./Waterford Union) was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team, which was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
