Men's Cross Country opens season with Alumni Meet

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire men's cross country team finished their first race of the season this past Saturday. The Blugolds hosted their own alumni meet at the City Wells where the men ran a 4 mile race. The alumni won the competition, scoring 15 points and a perfect score. The current men's team finished with 43 points.

The weather was slightly overcast and the Blugolds worked in their training groups during the race, embracing the pack mentality.

Alumni Christian Leitner won the meet, finishing 1st with a time of 20:26. The first Blugold to finish was Brett Haffner (So – Darien, IL/Hinsdale South) who placed 6th with a time of 21:21.

Haffner was followed by teammates Tyler Osen (Fr. – Lakeville, MN/North) 7th with a finishing time of 21:24, Connor Dolan (Jr. - Nekoosa, WI/Assumption) placed 9th finishing in 21:49.

Jake Petri (Jr – Cottage Grove, MN/Muskego) was the 4th Blugold to cross the line and finished right behind Dolan in 10th place, also with a time of 21:49. Bailey Wilson (Sr. - New Richmond, WI) rounded out the top 5 for the men's team, finishing 12th and finishing right alongside his teammates with a time of 21:49.

The Blugolds will race again Saturday, September 21 at the St. Olaf Invite in Northfield, MN.
