Men's Cross Country finishes 11th at NCAA Championship

WINNECONNE, WI (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team wrapped up their 2018 season this past Saturday at the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships held at Lake Breeze Golf Course.

The Blugolds finished 11th out of 32 teams at the meet, earning 357 points with North Central College winning the championship title with 43 points.

Patrick Treacy (Sr. – Fall Creek, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) earned All-American honors by placing 40th with a time of 24:59.5.

"The race went okay individually and even though I fell back towards the end, I was able to grab the last All-American spot," Treacy said.

Anthony Dupont (Sr. – Mendota Heights, MN/Henry Sibley), and Connor Dolan (So. – Nekoosa, WI/Assumption) were the next runners to finish. They placed 65th and 122nd respectively. Dupont ran a time of 25:21.3 and Dolan clocked in a time of 25:44.4.

Wyatt Elmer (Sr. – Mankato, MN/Mankato Loyola) took 133rd with a time of 25:47.1. Finishing just behind Elmer was Sam Kuhlmann (Sr. – Shorewood, WI/Shorewood) who placed 134th with a time of 25:47.2.

Rounding out the top 7 for the Eau Claire men were David Bachmeier (Jr. – Long Prairie, MN/Long Prairie-Grey Eagle) and Jace Bartz (Fr. – White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake). They finished 145th and 245th respectively. Bachmeier finished with a time of 26:08 and Bartz ran his race in a 26:39.6.

"Our team race wasn't perfect but despite this, we placed 3 spots higher than our ranking and it was a fun close to a successful season with my best friends," Treacy said.

Head Coach Dan Schwamberger said he is very proud of the men's team. Racing at the championship meet was a great way to finish the 2018 season.
