Track and Field announces team awards

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire track and field teams have announced their team awards for the 2017-18 season.

Sarah Glidden (Sr. – Greenville, WI/Hortonville) and David Kornack (Jr. – Edgar, WI) earned Most Valuable Performer honors while Megan Wallace (Fr. – Burlington, WI) and Jordan Lijewski (Fr. – Roseville, MN/Roseville Area) were voted Newcomers of the Year.

Glidden was the NCAA Indoor National Champion in the pentathlon. The senior also earned All-American honors in the 4x400 relay, which placed third. The Blugolds finished the indoor season fourth in the nation. Kornack turned in a stellar season in the shot put, as he was the national runner-up for the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Wallace made the most of her first season in the Blugold uniform, earning All-American honors in the heptathlon during the outdoor season in addition to taking the WIAC title in the event. During the indoor season, Wallace took third place in the pentathlon at the WIAC Championships.  Lijewski competed at the outdoor national meet with the 4x400 team that finished in 10th place. During indoors, the 4x400 team placed fourth at nationals to earn All-American honors.

Tommie Brenner (Jr. – Reedsburg, WI) and Hunter Henk (So. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls) earned the Captain Award, given to the person who demonstrates on a daily basis what it is to be the best representative of what it is to be a Blugold Track & Field member.

Brenner earned a third place finish at the WIAC Outdoor Championship with the 4x100 relay and in the 100 hurdles. At the national meet, the 4x100 team took 15th in the nation. Henk joined Lijewski on the 4x400 relay that placed fourth at nationals during the indoor season and was also a part of the relay team that won the WIAC indoor title.
