Steen finishes 8th at USATF Championships

SACRAMENTO (Blugolds.com) – Former Blugold Roger Steen had an impressive showing at the 2017 United States Track and Field (USATF) Championships held this weekend as the former NCAA Division III national champion claimed a spot in the finals on his way to earning an eighth place finish in the shot put.

Steen's best was a toss of 64-7.75 (19.70 meters). In 2015, he broke the school record at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to claim the top spot on the podium with a toss of 61-5.5 (18.73 meters).

Steen continued to train following his collegiate career and competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials last summer where he finished 20th with a toss of 62-5.25 (19.03 meters).

The top three finishers from this weekend's meet will move on to compete at the World Championships. The U.S. champion, Ryan Crouser, won with a throw of 74.3.75 (22.65) and is currently ranked number one in the world while the second place finisher, Joe Kovacs, is ranked third.

Steen is also a member of the Blugold coaching staffs for men's and women's track and field and football teams.
