Track & Field competes at Platteville Invite

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - On a stormy day at UW-Platteville, the Blugold Track and Field teams competed at their second outdoor meet of the season at the UW-Platteville Invitational. It was a tough meet due to multiple rain and lightning delays, but there were a couple of key performances that made the frustrating weather worth it.

Women's Results | Men's Results

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Kelsey Worachek (Jr. – Appleton, WI/Xavier), Claire Fischer  (So. – Appleton, WI/North), Jessie Reineck (Sr. – Greenville, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran), and Jessie Reineck (Sr. – Greenville, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran) ran their first relay of the season, and certainly did not waste any time in showing their speed. They ran 47.01, which is currently second in the nation. This talented group will be one to watch in the coming weeks, as their potential to win a national title in the event is very real. Two of the four members of the relay, Worachek and Reineck, were both a part of the National Championship 4x100 meter relay that won in 2015—a feat they would certainly like to repeat.

Worchek also won the women's 100 meter dash, running 12.50 in the pouring rain.

Ashleigh Buergi (Jr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) was the runner-up in the women's 200 meter dash, with a time of 25.29, while Fischer finished third with a time of 25.30.

Reineck won the women's 400 meter dash in a blistering time of 55.84—a big personal record for the senior—and currently sits 4th in the nation in the extremely competitive event. Reineck will be another one to watch in the coming weeks.

Steph Frempong-Longdon (Sr. - Minnetrista, MN/Waconia) finished second in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.26 meters.

Erica Oawster (So. Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) was second in the women's discus, with a throw of 43.25 meters. She is currently 12th in the nation.

On the men's side this week, Michael Amerlan (Fr. – Itasca, IL/Lake Park West) won the men's javelin throw with a mark of 44.26 meters.

Aaron Zmolek (Fr. – Holmen, WI) was third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.99.

Kyler Lueck (Fr. – Germantown, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) added a third place finish in the men's 800 meter run, finishing in 1:52.30. He currently sits 10th in the nation.

Nick Petersson (Sr. – Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) and Darin Lau (Jr. – Eau Claire, WI/Immanuel) finished third and sixth, respectively, in the men's 5,000 meter run. They are currently in 4th and 8th in the Division III national rankings.

Steven Schimmel (Sr. – Stewartville, MN/Mayo) was second in the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:51.79.

The Blugolds head to UW-La Crosse this week at the Phil Esten Challenge. Competition begins on Thursday with the decathletes kicking off their first multi competition of the outdoor season. The men's and women's 10,000 meter run will also be contested on Thursday.
