Steen, who won the 2015 Indoor and Outdoor national titles in the shot put, will compete on July 1 at the Eugene, Oregon trials.

"We are excited for Roger as he takes his next steps in the track & field world," said Head Coach Chip Schneider. "The transition from a collegiate athlete to post-collegiate athlete is a difficult one, but Roger has done it well.  He and [assistant] Coach [Paul] Conlin are a great team and continue to work hard to reach greater distances at the highest levels of the sport.  I'm happy UW-Eau Claire, the track & field team and coaches continue to support Roger as he pursues his dreams."

The shot put trials will be aired from 7-9 PM EST on July 1st on the NBC Sports Digital Network.

"Roger has earned this opportunity to compete at the Olympic Trials through sheer determination and hard work," said Conlin. "Roger believes in our program, the process of development and most importantly, he believes in himself. He has been a pleasure to work with and is a throws coaches' dream.  He puts in the time, effort in the weight room and has spent untold hours watching film in order to continue to develop his technique and now it is paying off.  It has been an honor and a privilege to work with Roger of the past five years and I'm looking forward to what his future has in store for him.  I think the best is yet to come for Roger."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Steen with the costs of the trip.
