LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed in three last chance meets this week, in preparation for the NCAA Division III Championship, which will be contested May 22-24 at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
Tuesday and Wednesday, Jared Danielson (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) and Kelsey Weigel (Sr.-Marshfield, Wis.) competed at North Central College (Ill.). In the decathlon, Danielson finished in fourth place with 5,786 points while Weigel was second with 4,394 points in the heptathlon.
Thursday, a number of Blugolds were in action at the UW-La Crosse NCAA Qualifier.
The men's team came away with two wins. Christian Leitner (So.-Red Wing, Minn.) won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:54.19, almost 10 seconds better than the second place finisher. The 4x400-meter relay team of Jacob Dennis-Oehling (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.), Will LaJeunesse (So.-Belle Plaine, Minn.), Alexander Vandermause (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and Jimmy Paske (Fr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) took the top spot with a time of 3:16.83.
For the women, Carly Fehler (Jr.-Oak Creek, Wis.) had the top finish, winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.70 seconds.
Friday, three Blugolds competed at the UW-Oshkosh Last Chance Qualifier. Sam Anderson (So.-Forest Lake, Minn.) had the best finish for the women, taking fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 39.55 meters (129-09). Roger Steen (Jr.-Luck, Wis.) had the best finish for the men, taking third in the shot put with a distance of 16.66 meters (54-8).
