Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team Competes at Three Meets

WINONA, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's outdoor track & field team competed in three meets in three states this weekend. A few Blugolds were at the Drake Relays in Iowa and a few others were at the Gina Relays in Michigan while the majority of the team was at the Saint Mary's Open in Winona, Minn.

At the Gina Relays, Matt Scott (Sr.-Kiel, Wis.) broke a school record by more than three seconds in the 1,500-meter run, taking fifth place with a time of 3:47.56. The previous school record was 3:50.71, set May 19, 2011 by Jake Zander.

The Blugolds' top results at the Drake Relays came from the 4x400-meter relay team of Cody Prince (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North), Jacob Dennis-Oehling (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.), Jimmy Paske (Fr.-Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) and Thurgood Dennis (Jr.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame). The group had the top preliminary time but ended up finishing in third place with a time of 3:11.47.

At the Saint Mary's Open, the Blugolds had three runner-up finishes and eight other finishes in the top five.

Will LaJeunesse (So.-Belle Plaine, Minn.) took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.68 seconds.

In the high jump, Matt Dietlin (Fr.-Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area) was second with a distance of 1.85 meters (6-0.75).

Alex Mess (So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) finished second in the shot put with a toss of 14.66 meters (48-1.25).

The Blugolds will be at UW-Oshkosh next Friday and Saturday, competing in the 2014 WIAC Championship.
