Lau, Distance Medley Relay earn All-American honors in opening day of NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM (Blugolds.com) – Several Blugolds earned All-American honors on the first day of the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, with Sarah Glidden (Sr.-Greenville, WI/Hortonville) leading the way with a national title in the pentathlon.

Glidden won the women's pentathlon with 3,632 points. The senior took second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.95), sixth in the high jump (1.65m), eighth in the long jump (5.07m), second in the 800-meter (2:19.35) and 10th in the shot put (9.66m).

Darin Lau (Eau Claire, Wis./ Immanuel) also earned All-American honors for the Blugolds, placing third in the 5,000-meter with a time of 14:25.35.

The men's distance medley relay team of Brendon Paucek (Sr. - Sullivan, WI/Jefferson), Brandon Christnovich (Jr. – Holmen, WI), Dylan Lueck (So. – Germantown, WI/Wisconsin Lutheran) and Patrick Treacy (Jr. – Fall Creek, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) took fifth place with a time of 9.58.65 to earn All-American honors.

Mel Becker (Sr. – Osseo, WI/homeschool) ran in the mile prelims on Friday afternoon, placing eighth with a time of 4:57.27 to advance to Saturday's final.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Ashleigh Buergi (Sr. – Green Bay, WI/Bay Port), Lizzy Keena (Fr. – Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln), Glory Hecker (So. – Stone Lake, WI/Hayward Center) and Glidden turned in a time of 3:51.90 in the prelims, securing a spot in the finals on Saturday.

In the men's 4x400 prelims, the team of Jordan Lijewski (Fr. – Roseville, MN), KJ Munn (So. – Bayport, MN/St. Croix Prep), Dietrich Schwoerer (So. – McFarland, WI) and Hunter Henk (So. – Beldenville, WI/River Falls) punched their ticket to Saturday's finals finishing with a time of 3:14.55.

In addition, Dylan Cooper (So. - Holmen, WI) is in fifth place in the heptathlon with 2,777 points. The sophomore turned in a strong first day, placing eighth in the 60-meter dash (7.38), eighth in the long jump (6.39m), second in the shot put (12.97m), and fourth in the high jump (1.87m).

Cooper will finish with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1000-meter run on Saturday.

Also competing Saturday will be David Kornack (Sr. – Edgar, WI) in the men's shot put while JoHannah Theisen (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Regis) and Erica Oawster (Jr. – Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) will compete in the women's shot put. Lau will also run in the men's 3,000-meter.
