STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire track and field teams traveled to Steven's Point this weekend for their last chance to qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships next weekend. Most of the athletes already qualified were on rest this week and it turned out to be a fairly quiet meet for the Blugolds.
For the women, Sarah Glidden (Jr.- Greenville, WI/Hortonville) won the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.41. That time is a personal best, and improves her position to 12th in the country.
Jessica Rupnow (Sr. – Sussex, WI/Sussex-Hamilton) finished second in a tough field, and ran a lifetime best of 57.94.
Marina Eggen (Sr. – Greenville, WI/Hortonville) placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.37. Also placing third was Sam Anderson in the weight throw, with a toss of 17.27.
On the men's side, the lone stand out was Alex Mess (Sr.-Lake Mills, WI/Green Bay Notre Dame). He took second in the shot put with a throw of 17.33 and won the weight throw with a toss of 18.84.
While this may have been a quieter weekend for this team, make no mistake; this is simply the calm before the storm. The Blugolds make their way to Grinnell, IA this week for the NCAA DIII Indoor National Championships.
