ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's track team traveled to Minnesota on Friday to partake in the St. Thomas Invitational.
Josh Thorson (Fr. Plymouth, Minn.) won the 3,000-meter run in 8:17.90—good for top three nationally and breaking the school record—while Dylan Lau (Fr. Eau Claire, Wis.) finished third in 8:41.90.
Thorson was not the only record breaker, as Brandon Zarnoth (Sr. Appleton, Wis.) set a school pole-vault record, jumping 15-11.00—a top-10 mark nationally.
His efforts were good for second, while two other Blugolds, Zack Greisch (Jr. Appleton, Wis.) and Greg Peterson (Sr. Heartland, Wis.) tied for third at 14-03.25.
Thurgood Dennis (Sr. Allouez, Wis.) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94 seconds—top 10 nationally—while Matt Hartje (Jr. Reedsburg, Wis.) finished second in 7.03 seconds.
Jimmy Paske (So. Minnetonka, Minn.) won the 200-meter dash in 22.73 seconds, and Hartje came in second in the event at 22.87 seconds.
The Blugolds swept the 60-meter hurdle, with Zarnoth finishing first in 8.41, Rylan Page (Sr. Milwaukee, Wis.) second in 8.46, and Peterson third in 8.76.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Paske, Connor Drexler (So. Baraboo, Wis.), Kevin Brooks (Jr. Roseville, Minn.), and William LaJeunesse (Jr. Belle Plaine, Minn.) won in 3:21.78.
Cody Prince (Sr. Appleton, Wis.) won the triple jump with a personal best 46-06.25, top 15 nationally.
Roger Steen (Sr. Luck, Wis.) won the shot put with a mark of 58-06.00—second nationally—and the weight throw with 57-02.25, while Alex Mess (Jr. De Pere, Wis.) finished second in the shot put throwing 56-09.25.
In the 800-meter run, Adam Moline (Jr. Maple Grove, Wis.) finished second in 1:55.10, and Cory White (Sr. Tomah, Wis.) placed third in the high jump at 6-06.00.
The Blugolds will next travel to Stevens Point for the Pointer Eastbay Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 21.
