STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team saw several impressive performances at the Pointer Invitational hosted here today at UW-Stevens Point.

The Blugolds finished second out of nine teams scoring 158 points. UW-Whitewater won the invitational with a total of 175.5 points.
Roger Steen (Sr.-Luck, WI) won both throwing events in impressive fashion. Steen won the Weight Throw with a toss of 56-5.25 feet (17.20 meters) which was more than 14 inches farther than the next closest competitor.
In the Shot Put Steen set a new school record with a throw of 58-6.75 feet (17.85 meters). The previous school record was set by John Schuna, a former national champion thrower, with a toss of 57-8.25 feet (17.58 meters) set on January 29, 2005 at UW-Whitewater. Steen's Shot Put performance currently ranks him second in the nation.
Thurgood Dennis (Sr.-Allouez, WI/Green Bay Notre Dame) made a strong statement in the 200-meter dash. Competing in the 200 for the first time this season, Dennis completed the dash in a time of 22.13 seconds. Dennis' performance currently ranks him first nationally in the 200.
Cody Prince (Sr.-Appleton, WI/North) also turned in a strong performance competing in the 400-meter dash. Prince won the 400 in a time of 49.35 seconds which currently ranks him ninth nationally. It was the first time Prince had run the 400 this season.
Donald Lang (So.-Somerset, WI) was one of four Blugolds to finish in the top six of the 60-meter dash, winning the event in a time of 7.05 seconds. Lang broke his season-best performance of 7.12 seconds set last weekend at the Warren Bowlus Open.
The men's 4 x 400-meter relay also earned first place honors finishing in a time of 3:20.18 which currently ranks fifth nationally.
The Blugolds return to the track next Friday, February 13 where they will compete in the St. Thomas Invitational. Competition is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
