Men's Indoor Track & Field Wins Pointer Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's indoor track and field team emerged victorious out of a 10-team field Saturday at the Pointer Invitational hosted by UW-Stevens Point.

The Blugold men got five first-place finishes en route to 177 team points, 10 points better than host Stevens Point.

On the track side, Matt Scott (Sr.-Kiel, Wis.) took down defending national champion Dan Sullivan in the mile with a time of 4:12.66. Sullivan finished in 4:17.10.

Thurgood Dennis (Jr.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame) won the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.71 seconds, just .04 ahead of the second-place finisher.

The 4x400-meter relay team also won with a time of 3:20.88

In the field, Roger Steen (Jr.-Luck, Wis.) won both the throws for the second time this season, winning the shot put with a heave of 16.85 meters and the weight throw with a toss of 17.41 meters.

Additionally, Brandon Zarnoth (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North) set a school record in the heptathlon as he took second place with 5,022 points. He held the Blugolds' old school record of 4,895 points, set Feb. 23, 2013.

Up next for the Blugolds is the St. Thomas Invite Friday night in St. Paul, Minn. Events are scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
