PLATTEVILLE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's indoor track & field team came away with five event victories, finishing in second place at the UW-Platteville Triangular today.
UW-Platteville won the meet with 113 points while the Blugolds came in second with 101.5. UW-Stevens Point took third with 81.5.
Roger Steen (Jr.-Luck, Wis.) led Eau Claire as he won two events, the shot put and weight throw. He finished with a distance of 16.35 meters (53-7.75) in the shot put and 16.55 meters (54-3.75) in the weight throw.
Also in the field, Cory White (Jr.-Tomah, Wis.) took the top spot in the high jump with a leap of 1.95 meters (6-4.75).
On the track, Matt Scott (Sr.-Kiel, Wis.) won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:39.38 and Will LaJeunesse (So.-Belle Plaine, Minn.) took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.14 seconds.
Eau Claire also came away with 11 other top-three finishes.
Friday, a few Blugolds also competed at the Prairie Wolf Indoor Invitational in Nebraska. Thurgood Dennis (Jr.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame) won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.74 seconds while the men's 4x400-meter relay of Cody Prince (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North), Jacob Dennis-Oehling (Sr.-Whitewater, Wis.), Brandon Zarnoth (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North) and Dennis also took first with a time of 3:18.59
Next Saturday, the Blugolds will be at UW-Stout to compete in the Warren Bowlus Open, which is set to begin at noon.
