
GREEN BAY, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team traveled to Green Bay on Friday where they led a 7-2 rout over St. Norbert College. On Saturday, they took the trip to Appleton to play Lawrence University, where they came up short 5-4.
Against St. Norbert, the Blugolds were led by Ryan Vande Linde (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who won a close No. 1 singles match by a score of 7-5, 5-7, 10-7. Joe Meier (Jr.-Hutchinson, Minn.) won the No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-0. The Blugolds also won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles match.
In the doubles competition, Eau Claire won all three matches. Its best win came in the No. 2 match, where Michael Roden (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and David Stingley (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) won 8-2.
The Blugolds faced a bigger challenge in Lawrence University. In the singles matches, Meier won again by a score of 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Once again, Brayden Parman (Jr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) and Stingley both won the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively.
Stingley and Roden won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-4. This was the only doubles victory for the Blugolds on the day.
After the weekend's matches, the Blugolds advance to a 4-4 record on the season.
The Blugolds' next matches will be next weekend when they travel to Moline, Illinois to face St. Ambrose (Iowa) on Friday and Loras (Iowa) on Saturday.
