
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team recorded a 5-4 victory over Allegheny College (Pa.) on the first day of Spring Break today.
The Blugolds won two doubles matches while finishing with three wins in singles play.
The No. 1 pair of Chris Kuna (Sr.-Edina, Minn.) and Joey Minear (Fr.-Oronoco, Minn./Rochester Century) won 8-6 while David Stingley (Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) and Michael Roden (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won by the same score in the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, the Blugolds played in three close matches but came out on top in all three.
Ryan Vande Linde (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won at No. 2 with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 15-13. Minear won at No. 4, 5-7, 6-0, 10-6 and Joe Meier (So.-Hutchinson, Minn.) won 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 5.
Eau Claire is now 11-3 on the season while Allegheny is 5-3.
Monday the Blugolds will face Centre College (Ky.) in a competition beginning at 8 a.m. Eastern.
