
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team defeated St. Cloud State University (Minn.) 7-2 Saturday at Gold's Gym.
The Blugolds won five out of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches.
Chris Kuna (Sr.-Edina, Minn.) gave up the fewest games as he won 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles spot.
Two singles matches were very closely contested but Blugolds pulled off victories in both.
Ryan Vande Linde (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), at No. 2, won 4-6 (10-2), 6-1, 1-0 while Ben Robertson (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) won 1-6 (10-7), 6-2, 1-0 at No. 6.
The No. 2 doubles team of Joe Meier (So.-Hutchinson, Minn.) and Vande Linde picked up an 8-5 win while Kuna and Joey Minear (Fr.-Oronoco, Minn./Rochester Century) won 8-6 in the No. 1 spot.
The Blugolds will have three home competitions coming up next weekend. Friday they will host St. Norbert and will complete the weekend Saturday against Lawrence University and MSOE.
