Men's Tennis Roll Past Royals at Home

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team began their 2022 season on Friday with a home dual against Bethel University. After sweeping doubles play, the Blugolds rolled on to an 8-1 victory over the Royals.

Results

John Foley (Jr. – Wayzata, MN) and Matt Gilbert (Minneapolis, MN/Washburn) won a close 8-6 No. 1 doubles match against E. Beckers (BU) and J. Reily (BU). At No. 2 doubles, Hunter Roseth (Jr. – Lakeville, MN/South) and RJ Griffiths () also battled hard to earn an 8-5 win to help UWEC sweep the doubles matches.

In singles play Demetri Bush (Jr. - Edina, MN/Duluth Marshall) tallied a comeback victory to keep the Blugolds rolling. His 3-6, 6-4, 10-1 come back at No. 2 singles was followed by a victory at No. 5 singles by Victor Simoes (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Weil Academy). Griffiths and Foley cruised to victories in their matches with only eight games dropped between the two. Tyler Grosz (Jr. – Hudson, WI) had the fastest victory of the singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 over B. Eliason in the No. 6 matchup.

The Blugolds will head on the road on Saturday, February 5th to Madison, WI for a doubleheader. UWEC will face North Central College at 9:30 AM and Luther College at 4:30PM.
