La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team defeated UW- La Crosse 5-4, Saturday afternoon at Veterans Courts. The Blugolds improve to 18-3 on the year.
The Eagles took two of the three doubles matches, getting out to an early lead over the Blugolds. Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis. / Notre Dame) and Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) were the single victory in doubles play. The pair defeated Alt/Riley (UWL) 8-3 at the number two doubles slot.
The Blugolds turned the match around in singles play, winning four of the six singles matches. Andrew Dahl (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) got things started with a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 victory at the number two singles slot. Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) followed suite at the three spot with a 6-2, 7-5 win. Daniel Schoen (Brookfield, Wis/ Central) and Mauthe came up huge at the four and five slots both earning key victories giving the Blugolds the 5-4 edge over the Eagles.
The Blugolds will face UW-Whitewater in La Crosse tomorrow April 22.
