Duluth, Minn. (Blugolds.com) The University of Eau Claire men's tennis team dominated the College of St. Scholastica 9-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center. The Blugolds posting their third consecutive dual victory, and improve to 16-3 on the season.
In doubles, senior Andrew Dahl (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and junior Daniel Schoen (Brookfield,Wis.) claimed the no. 1 match 8-5 over Serhii Tykhonenko and Bryce Gadke (CSS) while sophomore Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) and freshman Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) took the no. 2 slot 8-5. First year players, Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn.) and Matt Gilbert (Minneapolis, Minn. /Washburn) rounded out the doubles matches with an 8-2 victory.
In singles, Dahl and Barros claimed the no. 1 and 2 slots respectively, with Schoen clinching the dual for the Blugolds with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the no. 3 slot. Mauthe and Adam Burk (Forest Lake, Minn. /Totino Grace) won convincingly at the no. 4 and 5 slots. Fridinger, improved to 11-0 on the season with a win over Connor Croft (CSS) at the no. 6 slot.
The Blugolds will be back in action April 13th and 14th as they travel to Kalamazoo (Mich) for three non-conference duals.
