Eau Claire,Wis. (Blugolds.com)- The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team took on Macalester in a non-conference dual on March 4th at the Eau Claire YMCA. The Blugolds came away with a 6-3 victory.
The Blugolds started out strong earning two points in doubles action. Andrew Dahl (Fort Atkinson,Wis.) and doubles partner Daniel Schoen (Brookfield,Wis.) earned one of those points at number one doubles with a 8-5 victory. Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis. / Notre Dame) and Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.)won convincingly at the number two doubles slot, winning, 8-3.
Macalester made a run earning points at the number 1 and 3 spots in singles play, but wins for the Blugolds at the 2, and 5 slots sealed the victory. Dahl defeated Tripack (MAC) 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 at the number two singles slot while Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) and Schoen earned huge victories at the number 4 and 5 spots respectively. Adam Burk (Forest Lake, Minn. /Tortino Grace) won 6-3, 6-2 adding icing to the cake at the number six singles spot.
The Blugolds improve to 9-1 on the season and will compete as individuals at the USTA Tournament at the Eau Claire YMCA on March 9-11th.
