Men's Tennis Splits with Crown and Carleton

Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team defeated Crown College 9-0 but fell to Carleton College on February 17.

In their 9-0 triumph over Crown College the Blugolds only dropped two sets and were dominant top to bottom. In singles play Evan Fridinger (Woodbury, Minn. /Eastridge) who has not lost a singles match all year, defeated Boumann (CC) 6-0, 6-0 at the number one singles slot. Dane Steidl (Wisconsin Rapids,Wis.) won big at number two singles while Logan Scott (Foley, Minn. ) earned his first singles win as a Blugold at the number three spot. Jordan Stephenson (Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata) and Matt Gilbert (Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn) both won 6-0, 6-0 at the four and five singles slot, respectively. Collin Sebring (Lakeville, Minn. /South) finished the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Brewster (CC) at number six singles.

In doubles action, Grant Mauthe (Neenah, Wis.) and Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis. /Notre Dame) tallied another win at number one doubles. Frindinger and Jackson Lindquist (Eau Claire, Wis./ North) improve to 5-0  on the season with another win at number two doubles. Adam Burk (Forest Lake, Minn. /Totino Grace) with partner Renan Barros (Itajai, Santa Catarina, Brazil) defeated Burg/Brewster (CC) 8-0 at number three doubles completing the sweep.

Later in the day the Blugolds fell 8-1 to Carleton College. The bright spot of the match was a victory at number two singles by Andrew Dahl (Fort Atkinson,Wis.). Dahl gritted out a 7-6, 6-4, win over QI (Carleton). The Blugolds are now 6-1 on the season, and will host Dubuque and Lawrence next Saturday February 24th  at the Eau Claire YMCA.
