Sherman, TX (Blugolds.com)- The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire men's tennis team battled until the end but took a 5-4 loss to Austin College on March 24.
Austin College defeated the Blugolds in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to start the night but Conrad Felten (Wausau, Wis.) and doubles partner Zach Janssen (Green Bay, Wis.) got the Blugolds on the board with an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
After dropping the first two singles matches the Blugolds came back strong with wins at No. 3, 4, and 5 spots. Danny Schoen (Brookfield, Wis.) tallied 6-3, 6-2 scores for the win at No. 3, while Janssen defeated Kortikere (AC) 6-1, 6-3 at the No.4 slot. Will Weyenberg (Neenah, Wis.) made things interesting with a big win at the No. 5 singles slot. The Blugolds did not complete the comback but finished their spring break trip to Texas winning four out of six matches and improving their overall record to 11-4.
The Blugolds will be back in action hosting Wheaton (Ill.) on March 31. at the Eau Claire YMCA at 6:00pm.
