WINONA, Minn. (Blugolds.com) –The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team got back to their winning ways earning a 7-2 win over Luther College Friday night in Winona.
The Blugolds swept doubles play, starting with a win at No. 1 doubles as Kyle Hoffmann (Sr. Franklin,Wis.) and Michael Mauthe (Jr. Neena, Wis.) defeated Appel/Schneider 8-5. Jordan Stevens (Sr. Woodbury, Minn.) and Will Weyenberg (Jr. Neenah, Wis.) followed up with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles and Andrew Dahl (So. Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Andrew Rust (So. Golden Valley, Minn.) completed the doubles sweep with a hard-fought 8-6 win over Murman/Parsons.
In singles action Mauthe edged out Schneider 3-6, 6-1, 11-9 at No. 2 singles. Weyenberg and Daniel Schoen (Fr. Brookfield, Wis.) took care of buisness both earning wins, 6-2, 6-1, and 6-4, 7-6 respectively. At No. 5 singles August Badura (Fr. Oconomowoc, Wis.) won a close match defeating Buffington 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
With the 7-2 win over Luther the Blugolds are 14-4 since starting play back up in February. The team will be back in action April 8 at Wheaton (Ill.).
