Swim & Dive competes at St. Thomas Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire swimming and diving teams competed at the St. Thomas Invite Friday and Saturday with the women taking sixth place and the men finishing in third.

The Blugold women finished with 184 points while St. Cloud State won the meet with 1,007. On the men's side, Eau Claire tallied 868.50 points while St. Cloud State took first with 1,262.67 points.

Anna Theisen (Jr. - Glenbeulah, WI/Plymouth) led the women with a seventh place finish in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:40.03 while Emily Ries (So. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) was 11th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.82 and Maddie Kooima (Fr. – Stoughton, WI) also had an 11th place finish after clocking in at 2:14.91 in the 200 backstroke.

For the men, Dylan Glumac-Berberich (Jr. – Fridley, MN) won the 1-meter dive with a score of 488.20 and was second in the 3-meter with a score of 272.40.

The 400-yard medley relay team of Michael Bylander (Fr. – Baxter, MN/Brainerd), Collin Miller (Jr. – Rochester, MN/Schaeffer Academy), Conner Pendill (Jr. – Savage, MN/Burnsville) and Caleb Odmark (Sr. – White Bear Lake, MN) took second with a time of 3:36.06.

In addition, Miller won the 100 free (46.54) and also took second in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 58.87 while Odmark was third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.73.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Odmark,  Andrew Strauch (Sr. – Lakeville, MN/North), Dane Detert (So. – New Berlin, WI/West) and Miller claimed a second place finish with a time of 3:14.49.

"We had some tough swims this weekend and the team raced hard and put themselves in a position to be successful," said Head Coach Annie Ryder. "We had several of our women out due to illness and the women's team really stepped up as a group. We pounded on them in practice this week with the goal of racing tough and preparing for our mid-season meet in December. I'm pleased with how we continue to race as a team."
