Blugolds break records on Day 2 of WIAC Championships

BROWN DEER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Day two of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships was a record-breaking one for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire swimming and diving team.

On the men's side, a 32-year-old school record fell in the 800-yard free relay as Caleb Odmark (Jr. – White Bear Lake, MN), Collin Miller (So. – Rochester, MN/Schaeffer Academy), Logan Coert (Sr. – Cedarburg, WI) and Nicholas Meints (So – Parker, CO/Ponderosa) clocked in at 6:50.82 to take second place.

Collin Miller also took first place and broke the meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55:05 while Dayton Miller (Sr. - Rochester, MN/Schaeffer Academy) set a new school record in the 400-yard IM, taking first place with a time of 4:03.62.

In addition, Odmark and Coert placed second and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 1:41.34 and 1:44.36.

On the women's side, Jessica Short (Jr. – Grafton, WI) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.56.

Eau Claire had a strong finish in the 100 breaststroke as Camille Madsen (Jr. – Andover, MN), Emily Ries (Fr. - Eau Claire, WI/Memorial), and Sari Mailey (Sr. – Minnetrista, MN/Mound Westonka) placed second (1:07.23), third (1:07.28) and fourth (1:08.13).

The 200-yard medley relay team of Short, Ries, Anna Egli (Fr. – Mankato, MN/West) and Brittany Farr (Jr. – Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial) took third with a time of 1:47.02 while Kate Stensberg (Fr. – Antigo, WI), Rachael Streit (Fr. – Lakeville, MN/South), Anna Theisen (So. – Glenbeulah, WI/Plymouth) and Olivia Hanzak (Fr. – Crystal, MN/ Robbinsdale Armstrong) took third place in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:51.86.

The Blugold men remain in second place with 440 points while the women remain in third with 432.

The Blugolds will be back in the pool Saturday for the third and final day of the WIAC Championship.
