Men's Swim & Dive Finish Runner-Up at WIAC Championships

BROWN DEER, Wisc. (blugolds.com) - The 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships (presented by Culver's) concluded on Saturday, and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's swim and dive team finished in second place with 720.50 team points.

Earning the Swimmer of the Meet award was Collin Miller (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Schaeffer Academy). He finished in first place on Saturday in the 100 yard freestyle with his time of 45.15 besting the field. This broke Jim Harmon's school record from 1979 and was also faster than last year's NCAA invite time.

Joining Miller in the 400 yard freestyle relay was Ben Fisher (Sr.-Roselle, IL/Lake Park), Caleb Odmark (So.-White Bear Lake, MN), and Logan Coert (Jr.-Cedarburg, WI) who earned a second place finish with a time of 3:02.96. This 400 free relay broke the school record set back in 1987.

Earning NCAA B cuts were Dayton Miller (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Schaeffer Academy) and Ryan Young (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/North). Miller won the 200 yard breaststroke (2:04.40), and Young took second in the 200 yard butterfly. Young also was named the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete at the event.

Nicholas Meints (Fr.-Parker, CO/Ponderosa) finished third in the 200 yard backstroke with his time of 1:53.99.

As for the diving, Dylan Glumac-Berberich (Fr.-Fridley, MN) finished third in the three meter dive with a score of 452.85. Glumac-Berberich was joined by Matthew McMahon (Fr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) as qualifiers for NCAA Zones in the one meter dive.

It was also announced at the meet that Konrad Plomedahl (Sr.-Madison, WI/Sun Prairie) was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

The next competitions for the Blugold women are Diving Zones on February 24-25 followed by the NCAA Championships on March 15-18.
