BROWN DEER, Wisc. (blugolds.com) - The 2017 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships (presented by Culver's) kicked off on Thursday, and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's team currently sits in second place after day one of the competition.

Thursday's Results

This three-day event which marks the 55th annual men's championship has the Blugolds currently only trailing the 17-time defending WIAC Champions UW-Stevens Point.

Contributing to UW-Eau Claire's 187 team points were a first place finish in the 200 yard individual medley and finishing runner-up in the 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard medley relays.

A part of each of those races was Collin Miller (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Schaeffer Academy). In the 200 yard IM, the freshman broke the conference and school records with his 1:50.28 coming faster than last year's NCAA invite time.

Miller joined Ben Fisher (Sr.-Roselle, IL/Lake Park), Jack Kelly (Jr.-Medina, MN/Wayzata), and Logan Coert (Jr.-Cedarburg, WI) on the 200 yard freestyle relay team that set a new school record with their time of 1:21.63. This has them currently sitting fourth in the country with the top 16 qualifying for the national meet.

Ryan Young (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/North), Miller, Fisher, and Coert's second place finish in the 400 yard medley relay (3:23.45) broke the UW-Eau Claire record as well.

Day two of the competition will resume from Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Friday morning with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m.

Follow the action all season long on Blugold Game Day.
