Young leads Blugolds in win over Luther

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's swimming and diving team hosted Luther College on Friday night, defeating the Norse by a score of 206-82.

Eau Claire took the top two spots in the first event of the meet, the 200-yard medley relay, and never looked back. The team of Ryan Young, Collin Miller, Andrew Strauch and Logan Coert won the event with a time of 1:38.59.

Young would later win three individual events for the Blugolds, the 100-yard butterfly (54.06), the 100-yard backstroke (54.92) and 50-yard butterfly (24.98).

Nicholas Meints, Ben Fisher and Collin Miller would all win two individual events. Meints won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.65 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:58.46 while Fisher won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 28.48 and 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.44. Miller won the 50-yard freestyle (21.84) and 100-yard freestyle (48.21)

Additionally, Dayton Miller won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:04.54 and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Fisher, Jack Kelly, Andrew Shane and Coert turned in a winning time of 3:19.14.

Dylan Glumac-Berberich won the 1-meter dive with a score of 307.60 and the 3-meter dive with a score of 249.45, qualifying for the NCAA diving zone meet.

"We had a tough week of practice so I was really pleased to see how well they swam," said Head Coach Annie Ryder. "They raced really tough and fought to the end. The divers also had an excellent meet. They continue to improve each week and are doing some great dives on the boards."

The Blugolds will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to La Crosse for a 1 p.m. meet.
