Records Fall on Day 1 of WIAC Swim & Dive Championships

BROWN DEER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire swim and dive team had a successful first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships, with several Blugolds taking top honors and breaking records.

On the men's side, Ben Fisher (Jr.-Roselle, IL) tied a school record in the 50-yard freestyle prelims with a time of and tying the school record with a time of 20.71 with the men's 200-yard free relay team of Fisher, Jack Kelly (So.-Medina, MN/Wayzata), Thomas Hensen (Jr.-Delafield, WI/Kettle Moraine) and Logan Coert (So.-Cedarburg, WI) also clocked in at a record time, setting a new school record with a time of 1:22.13, placing second.  In addition, the men's 400-yard medley relay set a new school record as Hensen, Fisher, Ryan Young (Jr.-Lakeville, MN/North) and Coert took first with a time of 3:23.77.

On the women's side, Allie Hable (Sr.-Ankeny, IA)won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.49 while Samantha Senczyszyn (Fr.-Grafton, WI) took top honors in the 200-yard individually medley and set a new WIAC meet and school record with a time of 2:01.82; also qualifying her for the NCAA B cut and ranks her third in NCAA Division III. Jessica Short (So.-Grafton, WI) also earned an NCAA B cut in the 200-yard IM, clocking in at 2:05.21.

The Women's 200-yard freestyle relay of Hable, Ellie Hostetler (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Convent of the Visitation)  Short and Senczyszyn won with a time of 1:33.92, breaking another school record and posted a time faster than the NCAA invite time from a year ago. The time also ranks eighth in the nation.

In the 400-yard medley relay, another school record fell as Short, Senczyszyn, Hannah Sisto (Fr.-Neenah, WI), and Hable finished in 3:49.14, also hitting a time fasters than the NCAA invite time from last season.

The Blugolds will compete in day two of the championships on Friday with the meet wrapping up on Saturday in Brown Deer.
