Men's Swimming & Diving Wins Eight Events against Whitewater

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's swimming & diving team won eight events facing UW-Whitewater on Senior Day in the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

Alex Card (Sr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) led Eau Claire as he was part of four victories, three individually and one as part of a relay team. He took first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.56 seconds, first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.36 and first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.74.

Card, Ryan Young (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./North), Aaron Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East) and Ben Epperly (Sr.-Schaumburg, Ill.) also took the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:38.54.

Epperly finished the day with three wins, two on relay teams and one individually. Along with the 200-yard medley relay, he was also part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lickel, Luke Wusterbarth (So.-Hudson, Wis.) and Spencer Rose (Sr.-Brookfield, Wis./Central), who won with a time of 3:17.83. Epperly also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.57 seconds.

Other individual victories came from Rose in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.95 seconds and Young with a time of 54.68 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly.

As a team, the Blugolds came up short to the Warhawks 157-143.

Next up for Eau Claire is the WIAC Championship, which will be contested in Brown Deer, Wis., Feb. 20-22. UW-Eau Claire will serve as host of the meet.
