NORTHFIELD, Minn. (blugolds.com) — An 88th-minute goal made the difference as the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team got past Carleton in a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon. Will Miers (So. - Columbus, Minn./Centennial) netted the winning goal to push the Blugolds to a fourth consecutive victory.

The Blugolds and Knights couldn't separate from each other in the first half. UW-Eau Claire outshot Carleton 8-5, but neither side could get past the opposition's goalkeeper.

The Blugolds only had one shot in the second half, but they made it count. Nathan Donovan (So. - Hazel Green, Wis./Wahlert Catholic) sent in a cross from the right corner, and Miers headed it into the top right corner to give UW-Eau Claire the lead with less than three minutes remaining. It was Miers' second goal of the season.

Spencer Banks (So. - Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) made a pair of saves in net for a shutout — his eighth of the season. The defense has posted three shutouts in the Blugolds' four-game win streak. The Knights outshot the Blugolds 16-9, but UW-Eau Claire held a 3-2 advantage in shots on target.

The Blugolds (17-2-0) close out their regular season when they visit UW-Whitewater on October 26. The game is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
