Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team concluded their homestand weekend this Saturday evening as they hosted Saint Mary's University (MN) at Hobbs Ice Arena. With high intensity play and a consistent aggressive offense, the Blugolds were able to pull away in the third period with a 5-2 win.

Box Score

UW-Eau Claire started the scoring in the first after Andrew McGlynn (St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College) took a shot from the off angle and beat the Saint Mary's goalie glove side to give the Blugolds a one goal lead. The Cardinals would answer just before the end of the period to tie the game at one.

After a scoreless second period, the Blugolds would waste no time gaining back the lead as Jarrad Vroman (Lincoln Park, MI/St. Francis Cabrini) would net his first goal as a Blugold and the start of a scoring frenzy. Moments later, Vroman would rip another shot on net that would get saved, but Jake Bresser (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI) would send the rebound into the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-1.

The Blugolds wouldn't stop there as Nathan Dingmann (Jr. – Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) and Adam Parsells (Wausau, WI/West) would each pick a top corner and light the lamp for the fourth and fifth goals of the game. The Blugolds would give up a power play goal late but recorded four successful penalty kills to improve their record to 87% in their first three games.

Goaltender Riley McVeigh (So. – Calgary, AB/Rundle College) would stop 13 of the 15 shots he faced and would earn his first win in a Blugold sweater improving to 1-0-0 on the season.

The Blugolds will begin a six-game road stretch next week, beginning in St. Peter, Minn. when they take on the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 PM at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
