Men's Hockey falls to Pointers in WIAC title game

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team faced UW-Stevens Point in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship (presented by Culver's) on Saturday night. The Pointers would remain undefeated on the season as they tallied a 3-2 win over the Blugolds.

The Pointers got on the board first, scoring on the power play midway through the first period. Andrew McGlynn (Fr. – St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers) had the answer for Eau Claire minutes later, scoring his sixth goal of the season off an assist from Lucas Kohls (Sr. – Forest Lake, MN). Stevens Point would tally another goal in the last minute of the first period to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

In the second, Adam Parsells (So. – Wausau, WI/West) would score on the man-advantage thanks to a Jake Bresser (Jr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) assist at the 4:20 mark. Each team would have several scoring opportunities but both defenses would hold strong.

The Pointers would get the game-winner at 13:24 in the third period to claim the WIAC's Commissioner's Cup.

The Blugolds would edge the Pointers in shots on goal, tallying 29 to Stevens Point's 26 but the Pointers would finish the night 2-of-7 on power plays while the Blugolds were 1-for-4.

Zach Dyment (So. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) took the loss in net, recording 23 saves.

The Blugolds (19-7-2) will await to see if they receive an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament on Monday.
