No. 1 Pointers edge No. 3 Blugolds

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team traveled to No. 1 UW-Stevens Point on Friday looking to give the Pointers their first loss of the season but would come up short, falling by a score of 3-1.

Stevens Point would score first, tallying a late first period goal. The Pointers would tack on another with a controversial goal early in the second period that was initially waved off by the officials but later called a goal. The Pointers would score their final goal at the 15:17 mark of the second.

Nathan Dingmann (So. – Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) would get Eau Claire on the board at 17:30 of the second period, thanks to assists from Steen Cooper (Jr. – Duncan, BC) and Derek Hammer (Fr. – Woodbury, MN/East Ridge).

The third period would be a defensive battle as neither team could score. Stevens Point outshot the Blugolds 24-15 on the night while goaltender Zach Dyment (So. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) tallied 21 saves in the loss.
